Frequently Asked Questions.
Why does my candle look bumpy after I burned it?
The surface on the top of the candle looks uneven because it is made of 100% soy! This is a natural element of soy-based wax as it is constantly reforming. But don't worry! The frosting does NOT impact the performance of the candle!
Help! My candle is flickering and not burning properly- what do I do?
Before every burn it is highly recommended to trim the burned/black parts of the wooden wick to reduce carbon build-up. To ensure a clean and long burn you could use a nail clipper, a wick trimmer, or your fingers to clip the wick! Failure to care for your candle consistently and properly can cause imperfections in the burn of your candle.
Oh no! I clipped the wick too short what do I do!
If the wick is clipped too short the flame will drown. But don't panic! Scrape off a light layer of solid wax around the wick! If the wax is already liquid you may be able to sop up some with a paper towel, but this is not as recommended because of the risk of fire or burning. We also do not recommend trying to pour the wax out for risk of burning.
My candle is tunneling! Is there anything I can do to stop it from tunneling further?
Oh no! You might be able to wrap aluminum foil around the body of the candle and slightly over the edge to create a little tent? To prevent further tunneling it is really important to let the wax melt to the edge!
What makes Winniefred sustainable and eco-friendly?
While most big businesses are strictly for profit and they may cut corners for the best profit margin, Winniefred is okay with less profit for better and sustainable products and packaging. We do not source from Amazon, We also plan on expanding into an eco-market and selling more than just candles! We are currently looking into vendors that sell zero waste items such as bamboo toothbrushes, Swedish dishcloths, reusable ear swabs, and much much more!
Why isn’t your candle zero-waste?
We are almost zero waste! The only two items that contain unrecyclable content are the adhesives on the wick stickers and the necessary warning stickers on the bottom of the candle. While the warning label is kraft we have not been able to confirm on the supplier’s website whether or not it can be curbside recycled. We have seen other candlemakers simply place the wooden wick in the candle without a wick tab, but we have not done enough tests to confirm whether that method can be used in our candles. I am currently trying to find alternatives that are plastic free, but also allow for the jar to be reused.
How do I clean out the candle to reuse it?
Thank you for reusing your vessel instead of just throwing it away! Due to the nature of concrete, any rapid change in temperature can cause cracking caused by expanding and shrinking. For that reason we don't recommend the method of placing the vessel in the freezer as there is a risk of cracking. Pouring warm to hot, NEVER BOILING, water into the vessel can soften the wax and the adhesive, and make it easy to scoop out the wax with a spoon.
Does Winniefred offer candle refills?
We are currently working on that! We are coming up with an actual refill that you can buy and place into your concrete vessel! It'll be cheaper than buying a whole new candle and if you have a personalized jar you can keep using it! So save your jars!
Do you offer samples?
I would recommend the 2oz Sample bundle! It has 3 of our scents for $28. You save money and also get to test the scents before you commit to a bigger vessel! Each 2 oz jar has about 10 hours of burn time! We are also developing scent cards which will be included in orders!
